Hummingbird Haven
There are eighteen different varieties, each an irresistible invitation to imbibe in summer's sweet nectar. The Hummingbird Haven Flower Mix calls all hummingbirds. In cool climates plant in the spring, 1 to 2 weeks after the last average frost date. Soil must be kept moist while the seeds are germinating and beginning to grow. This glorious array of vivid floral color will last from spring to fall for your enjoyment as well. Some of the flower varieties included are Bee Balm, Columbine Shooting Star, Coral Bells, Godetia, Hollyhock, Nasturtium and Zinnia. This mix covers approximately 14 square feet. If this mix of showy, bright blooms doesn't catch their attention, they haven't arrived in your town yet. In mild climates, sow seed during cooler months, generally October through March. Bachelor Button - Sweet Sultan The Sweet Sultan is an excellent cut flower and grows well in that "hot" spot where nothing else does well. Flower colors are shades of white, pink, purple, lavender, rose, red, yellow, and burgundy. Plant the Bachelor Buttons in the spring 1 to 2 weeks before the last frost. Sweet Sultan blooms summer into early fall, mostly during the heat. The Bachelor Button Sweet Sultan Imperialis, 'Centaurea (Amberboa) moschata', is a deliciously fragrant and an absolutely splendid cut flower. They prefer average soils with moderate fertility and are tolerant to drought. The easy to grow and very fragrant 'Imperialis' is a somewhat taller and improved variety. The 2 inch flower heads are thistle-looking and almost shine. If you like cut flowers, you must grow Sweet Sultan. Sweet Sultans prefer a full sun location. |
