Coleus - Pineapple

Coleus must have good soil drainage. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized contanier gardening. If a coleus plant is allowed to seed, it has completed its life cycle and will die. The coleus plants are a tender perennials. For zones 10-11, this plant can also be a perennial. Poorly drained soils and excessive watering will damage coleus. Coleus plants are durable and easy to grow. Flower buds should be pinched off as soon as they develop. The Coleus Pineapple, 'Coleus hybrid', has scalloped edges that adds to the already impressive contrast of ruby and chartreuse foliage. Plants suffering from "wet feet" will be stunted, leaves will turn a muddy brown, and leaf margins will be scorched. Coleus plants are so colorful that many people keep them and use them as a house plant. These plants will do best in temperatures above 55 degrees. Supertunias are a vigorously trailing species of an everblooming, long-living petunia from Australia. They are ideal for baskets, beds, balconies and combination plantings. They do not need to have their dead flower heads removed to continue flowering and they are not leggy. Supertunias grow fast and therefore need ample moisture and fertilzer. They will provide long-term color in full sun areas throughout the season, and can grow nearly an inch a day. Supertunias are very heat and drought tolerant once established in the ground or pot. The Mini Rose Veined Petunia has beautiful rose veined flowers. For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial.
