Blueberries are a gourmet treat that may be eaten fresh or used in cobbler, cake, sauce, jam, jelly or syrup. It ripens in August and is a very reliable producer every year. It is suitable for mechanical harvesting. The bush is very vigorous and productive. It is very productive and an excellent berry for baking. Prune as needed in late winter beginning in the third year after planting. This blueberry grows best on sites where most other crops fail. Blueberries are delicious, exceptionally nutritious, high in bioflavanoids. The clusters are long and loose. Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces the best fruit crop. Jersey is one of the oldest, most widely grown varieties and is easy to grow in most soil types. It has an upright and open growth habit. The Jersey Blueberry, Vaccinium 'Jersey', has a dark blue fruit that is small to medium in size and very sweet in flavor. It performs well on loose textured soils--mixtures of sand and peat are best.
