For screen, space 6 feet apart. It does well in a variety of soils and is very hardy. This evergreen conifer tree thrives in urban locations as well as in windbreaks in more rural settings. The spreading branches of a young tree form a pyramidal outline, but at maturity, it sometimes achieves a picturesque flat topped head. Also good for thick screens or windbreaks. in height in 6-7 years starting with a 2 year old seedling. It will tolerate both limestone or acidic soils, dry rocky locations and windy conditions. The Austrian Pine, Pinus nigra, is a densely branched tree producing long dark needles. When placed in a good site it should reach 5 ft. White Walnut White Walnut trees grows fast, especially as a seedling, but usually does not live longer than 75 years. The White Walnut tree, Juglans cinerea, also known as White walnut and Butternut tree is a small to medium-sized tree. The smaller branches tend to bend downwards and then turn up at the ends. The root system is composed of a number of wide-spreading laterals that grow to a considerable depth. It makes a good shade tree. Nuts resemble Black Walnut, but smaller, with an oily, spicy flavor. Tree is best known for the rich quality of its wood. Usually a taproot develops in deep soils. This tree has a short trunk which is divided into a few ascending limbs with large spreading, sparsely forked branches. The crown is open, broad, irregular in outline and rounded at the top. |
